Worrying about the Teabaggers has always seemed as silly to me
as worrying about Flat-Earthers, but it seems especially
silly now in the Occupy era. Don't we have much more
important things to think about?

Indeed. And this _frivolity_ of focus on the "far right" has cluttered left
politics for over half a century. Left politics is a politics of mass
action, not a politics of the seminar or the Congressional Committee. And
mass movements grow by accretion -- that is, from a left political
perspective we are at a given time only interested in those we _can_ reach
and incorporate into militancy. We have no reason to fuss over Reagan or the
Tea Party. That is an a-political perspective, the perspective of the
electoral candidate or the detached observer.
