It's too bad he turned away from the good work he had long done, to become a booster for imperialism. He wrote beautifully, and I'll remember him for his brilliant and blistering defense of Noam Chomsky (which the slanderous and clueless Brad De Long needs to read) in his "Chorus and Cassandra", published in Grand Street in 1985 (copy here: http://www.chomsky.info/onchomsky/1985----.htm).
