Thank God I don't have a TV show to lose. 

But I mean it in a somewhat different sense from 
Beck's. Much virtual ink has been spilled on this 
list discussing the concept of 'structural racism', 
which seems strangely to persist in spite of everybody's
bien-pensant commitment to 'diversity'. But all the 
structures that maintain the racism have Obie's 
unqualified support, from Drug War to high-stakes 
standardized tests in the schools. 

The subjunctive mood cuts no ice with me, so what Paul 
'would have' done wrt the civil rights act is a chimaera 
bombinans in vacuo. Let it bite me. I'll never feel it; 
hypothetical bites don't bleed. 

Of course Paul will never become President, so what he 'would'
do -- or try to do -- about Social Security and Medicare is 
neither here nor there. To borrow a concept from Carrol Cox, 
this line of thinking exhibits a confusion of politics and 
policy.
