It will be a hard sell for leftists who are not active members of _some kind_ of local left group -- it need only a group that at least occasionally actively debates what they should do next, how they might relarte to other left or potentially left groups in the locality, etc. They will not say anything as silly as "Why can't we do both," not being trapped in their own thought. They will be aware of the limits of left power, and they will know that working-class solidarity is not grounded in judging people. They will realize that the lust for "good teachers" is in practice collaboration with Management's lust to control, as manifested in the power to fire. The hunt for "good teachers" is actually, in practice, a hunt for 'bad' teachers we can fire.

Carroll, as you know, I agree with you more often than not. But this proposition is going to be a hard sell for any 'leftists' who currently have kids in the schools. > And what 'the kids' need is that their parents should have more free time > and higher pay. Of course. The problem with poor people is that they don't have enough money. Fix that, and you fix a lot. -- -- Michael J.
