>According to one article about Summers’s tenure at Harvard: “So great was
the bewilderment over Summers’s lack of social skills that some in the
Harvard community wondered if there might be a clinical reason for his
behavior: a neurobiological disorder called Asperger’s syndrome.” <

A lot of very smart people (e.g., Albert Einstein) had or have AS. Though
long-distance diagnosis is risky, it's quite possible that Summers has it
-- even though the doesn't have enough intelligence to know that he's not
as smart as he thinks he is.

Though AS may be a neurobiological disorder, that doesn't mean that there's
nothing that can be done. Those with AS should take courses on social
skills -- or at least be cognizant of their lack of those skills. Summers
clearly lacks this training and this awareness.

FWIW, my son was diagnosed as having AS and I may have a mild dose.
