To examine the other side of the coin, I'm aware of US auto workers taking offense to criticisms of American cars, as if they were personal attacks on them. Which they aren't, of course; to the extent that Fords, Chevys, etc. are crap, it's because of chains of errors running from executive boardrooms to design studios, with assembly lines having very little to do with it.
