But we have to realize that demonizing the rich as individuals can
contribute to the eventual demonization of the capitalist class as a
whole or even of the capitalist system. Without some sort of human
face, the words "capitalist class" remains an abstraction. People can
get beyond demonizing individual capitalists. Potentially, it's not
"crippling." Instead, it can be more like "infancy" or "childhood."
One way to help people make the transition -- to "grow up," continuing
to use the patronizing metaphor -- is to avoid rigid formulas,
_demanding_ that people "grow up" right away and that leftists stop
not following one's correct line, like a martinet.
