I am not going to the moralizing anti-marxist thing. I am interested in what is going in the anthro institutions and associations that produces anything but derision toward Friar Chagnon and his cohorts.
I played with the idea of changing my major from art to anthro because established anthro readings of US southwest native arts, aka visual cultural work was terrible. I had just read some cultural relativity papers and was all hot for it. ... But the fucking work would have been very tedious touching on the worst of linguistics. I still have no idea why anthro, sociology and linguistics are so hell bend to prove universals and hopefully near deterministic ones at that. The ideas of von Humbolt and Cassirer are much more appealling to me... Anyway. What is this thing with Chagnon?
