I think the race question is somewhat different. because there is so
much overt and covert discrimination, credentialism becomes a path out
for racial minorities.

I think the assumption that the more PhDs we have, the better is a
questionable one. the amount of people with doctorates has risen but i
don't think that has brought positive political developments.

my only qualification to that view is that if you look at the birth
period of the Soviet Union, there was a large dearth of people who
understood the system, especially the monetary system. I think if
there had been more people who truly understood money among the upper
echelons of the Bolsheviks, things might have turned out significantly
different.
