I assume that if the Shiite Iranian government is sending combat troops to Syria – probably with the approval of Moscow – it judges that Mr Obama is not in a position to respond militarily in a significant way, right now. It is more that in the longer term, it provides the American government with yet another reason for bombing Iran.
