If I understand Shane here, then I follow this practice whenever I have
occasion to use the word "ideology"; I substitute "common sense," itself
defined as spontaneous but(usually)  unstated and not always recognized
assumptions."

One difficulty with Shane's definition of "definition" is that it does set
up, it seems to me, an infinite regress, that cannot be resolved but only
arbitrarily cut short.
