The "essential things" can't be put in a primer. It would be better to take
one 'thread' from Marx rather than trying to grab the (probably
non-existent) _essence_. I think Chapter 14 of WPP by itself would represent
a good introduction; it could be used without making (necessarily) false
claims to be handling Marxism as a whole.

Or perhaps the first few paragraphs of the chapter on the Working Day in
Capital.
