For what it's worth, I found out about the Palley article from an old 
friend who has a PhD in economics from Columbia University and who used 
to work at the World Bank. Now he is an analyst for the American branch 
of a European bank. He is of the left, but not a Marxist. So he has it 
figured out even if you would have assumed that he would agree with Piketty.
