The article says “geopolitical” factors are behind this refurbishing of the US nuclear arsenal. But as part of the effort to boost the economy, the Obama administration also knows this to be, unfortunately, a more acceptable form of public spending for many Americans, particularly in states where the military-industrial complex is concentrated, than is public spending on infrastructure, green energy, or social services.
