The speech will surely be broadcast live on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News, so anybody who wants to watch it can watch it. The problem for liberals, as we know from Jonathan Gruber, is that they think voters are stupid, so apparently liberals are concerned that the voters won’t realize they could watch the speech if they turned the channel. Or even worse, the typical voter has no interest in what the Prez has to say and would rather watch The Big Bang Theory, so they should be “nudged” to pay attention.
The airwaves are a commons, belonging to all of us. In return for the exclusive right to use some part of it, private broadcasters are required by law to broadcast "IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST, CONVENIENCE, AND NECESSITY." Mr. Shemano seems to think that all of us are cable customers. He couldn't be more wrong. To deprive those of us, those who rely for essential information on over-the-air broadcasting, of access to a presidential address on a matter of extreme importance and controversy is an obvious insult to public convenience, as well as to public interest and necessity. Their licenses should be immediately canceled.
