Why don't you get into the habit of quoting people if you are going to characterize them? I said that I thought the Thessalonika Program was worth fighting for but was very skeptical that it could be achieved without massive solidarity from the European working class and the radical movement. It turned out that nothing materialized. If you look at the film on the British miners strike I reviewed recently, or if you followed it when it occurred, it was defeated even with a fairly widespread and massive backing. The movie "Pride" showed how gays and lesbians rallied around the miners, for example. But in the end they were not able to stop Thatcher. Furthermore, I don't think that Greece's problems will be resolved by leaving the eurozone. Austerity comes in different forms. Scotland is in terrible shape even though it is not in the eurozone. We are talking about a deep crisis of capitalism not that much different than the 1930s, at least for countries in Southern Europe. What did it take to end the Great Depression? Keynesianism? Not really. It took a bloody world war. That is not in the cards now for obvious reasons. Anyhow, as soon as I have wrapped up my series of articles on Swedish social democracy, I plan to write a number dealing with Greece. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
