a lot of the old CP had a pretty poor understanding of dialectics, seeing dialectics 
as a set of formulas for cranking out pat answers. (It's a little like Trotsky's 
embarrassing presentation in his debate with Burnham in what must have been his worst 
book, IN DEFENSE OF MARXISM.)
