I read Stonecash's book about
class and party. What do you make of it? Among other things, he
argues that the D's move to the right is exaggerated, and that
there's still a substantial class aspect to partisan allegiance. Both
these claims are counter to standard U.S. left wisdom.

i read stonecash to say that while class voting is stronger today than
in past dems have moved not done much to appeal to working people, so
even though working people still vote dem more than rep, there's not
enough of them and dems don't try to mobilize them...

stuff on south is particularly interesting - more affluent white
southerners (many of whom are transplants from elsewhere) have become
republicans more so than white working people...

stonecash's 'rediscovery' of class runs counts to conventional poli sci
wisdom in all of its 'end of class' claptrap... michael hoover
