I assume that leftists are concerned to build mass movements of
opposition to various aspects of the capitalist state and other
capitalist institutions, and ultimately against capitalism. As far as I
can tell, such organizing can only work if grounded in a factual basis
that is generally available rather than on the kind of facts that can
only be determined by archival research or state investigations with
subpoena power. Even if 9/11 had been a conspiracy on the part of some
capitalist grouplet, it would be counter-productive to continue to
attempt to show that, and if it were shown to be the case it would be
even _more_ counter-productive politically.

Consider the Tonkin Bay Resolution 'conspiracy' and the Watergate
conspiracy.

In respect to the first, 'proving' it would have been useless. There
were so many more important reasons to oppose the Vietnam War, and many
if not most of those reasons fed into a more general opposition to
imperialism (and thus ultimately to capitalism), while the only 'lesson'
that one could draw from the Tonkin Bay Affair was that there were some
crooks in government. Big Deal.

Watergate as a whole added up to a wonderful defense of the fundamental
beauty and rightness of capitalist democracy. The System Works.
