Paul quotes Julio H: > > > > >IMHO, the way to attract the Democratic rank-and-filers (and that > >decisive bunch of people who claim to be independent) is by making a > >public commitment to *seriously consider endorsing* the DP candidate > >*if and only if* such candidate *clearly* commits to troop withdrawal > >and the progressive reform of foreign policy. And then doing as we > >say....
Pound once noted that his signature on a piece of paper (a check) had rather less meaning than the signature of John D. Sr. Who is this "we" whose endorsement (or lack thereof) is supposed to have such an impact on the DP? I am continually reminded by arguments such as Julio's of an old 1950s joke: Q: What is the height of arrogance? A: A flea approaching an elephant with intentions of rape. Julio in this proposed strategy (like the ABBs of last fall)is precisely such a flea. Those of us who make up some sort of an independent left cannot possibly have an impact either way on a national election (or even on congressional elections). Perhaps we will some day, but that day is postponed indefinitely by such proposals as Julio H's. Carrol
