So what is the purpose of the Israeli attacks against

the purpose seems to be to prove that Israel is boss of the region,
just as the US is supposed to be the boss of the world.

I am astounded that almost no major media even
calls attention to the fact that Israel is engaged in
major war crimes in attacking infrastructure and
civilians who obviously have nothing to do with
terrorism. Only a few have called attention either to
the fact that using US supplied military equipment for
these purposes also violates US law.

I hate to make Nazi analogies (since they are over-used and thus
actually end up making the Nazi crimes look more moderate). But this
Israeli invasion of Lebanon and destabilization of the Lebanese
government and killing of Lebanese civilians is rising toward the Nazi
league. Not the Holocaust, nothing like that. (Cole does mention
"ethnic cleansing," the little cousin of genocide, however.) But the
Nazi invasion of Poland. The only difference is that Hezbollah engaged
in a little cross-border military adventure, whereas the Nazis cooked
up their own "Poles" to do it. It feels like if the Hezbollah
kidnapping hadn't existed, Israel would have invented it, since they
had military destruction plans on tap, ready to use. Their attitude
seems to be that everyone must obey Israel, that one (non-Arab)
Israeli life is worth 20 or so Arab ones. Lebanon must be a puppet of
Israel.

Of course, Israel is a big ally of the US and there's been a lot of
cross-fertilization of attitudes and strategies between the two
countries' power elites, especially since Bush took power. It seems
that the US and Israel (along with the two poodles, England and Japan)
are leading the race to the bottom of moral standards.

Our premier Harper simply parrots the US line that
Israel has a right to defend itself that the blame
lies with SYria and Iran, and even that the Israel
response was measured. Right! Ten Lebanese( and the
odd Canadian) for each Israeli killed.

isn't it more like 15 or 20?

I have two friends in Lebanon. They both moved from Beirut to Byblos
when the fighting started. I hope that works.
