It's a profitable activity that helps the ruling classes of the world
make major decisions about when, where, how much, and how to invest
their capital.  If we understand today's imperialism as a process of
integration of the ruling classes of the world, first the Atlantic
ruling classes (the US and the UK), then, the ruling classes of the
rest of the OECD nations, the Gulf states, former "Asian tigers," key
rising economies such as Brazil, China, India, and South Africa, and
the rest, finance is the engine of that process of integration.
