South Africa's national police commissioner has resigned as the
president of Interpol after prosecutors said he is to face corruption
charges.

In a case that has rocked the ruling African National Congress, Jackie
Selebi, a leading party member, is accused of taking payoffs from a
notorious criminal.

He said he was giving up his Interpol post because he did not want the
allegations "to bring the good work of this august body into
disrepute".

Heinrich Himmler, the first president of that "august body," must be
rolling
over in his unmarked grave--with laughter.
