KOTA BARU: Let’s put aside politics and promote wholesome entertainment – this
is the call by PAS Youth to its Umno counterpart in the wake of the Kelantan
government’s decision to invite Akademi Fantasia 3 winner Asmawi Ani, or Mawi,
to perform in the state next month.
Its chief Salahuddin Ayub said PAS Youth want to work with Umno Youth to check
social ills affecting the country’s younger generation.
“Let us put politics aside. Our decision to work alongside artistes such as
Mawi or Siti Nurhaliza is to promote our definition of healthy entertainment,”
Salahuddin told newsmen here yesterday.
He said the wing will not set any terms and conditions in wanting to work with
Umno Youth, adding that there is no hidden agenda.
“We just want to address social ills involving youth and welcome cooperation
with Umno Youth to overcome them.”
Salahuddin described Mawi and Siti Nurhaliza as “role model” entertainers who
offered wholesome and healthy entertainment, and not the extreme version
depicted by western artistes.
“Pas accepts entertainment as a form of temporary escapism but the party does
not condone the 24-hour screening of western entertainment, including reality
TV series,” he said.
“Such western entertainment should be banned as it creates a negative culture,
especially through the display of sexy attire.”
Salahuddin described the young generation as a “fragile lot who can easily fell
prey to immoral influences”.
He said more concrete measures must be taken to steer them towards the right
path.//Thestar
