PETALING JAYA: Kelantan want to wrap up their spirited football season in style
in front of their ardent fans when they take on Kuantan Port Shahzan Muda in
the Premier Club final at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru tonight (kick
off 8.45pm).
Coach Kamaruddin Mohd Noor said that it had been a long time since Kelantan
featured in a final in the M-League and they were obligated to give their fan a
big treat.
We have won back our fans. They have been great and we definitely need their
support for our campaign in the new season in the Premier League, said
Kamaruddin.
Kelantan and Kuantan Port have gained promotion to the second-tier Premier
League while Malacca and Police go down to the Premier Club competition.
We have showed tremendous fighting spirit and this has been our rallying point
this season. We are counting on this sort of commitment from the players to
revive football fortunes in Kelantan, said Kamaruddin.
Kelantan also gave a strong showing in the FA Cup competition.They eliminated
Super League champions Perlis in the second round and also came within a
whisker to scalping Premier League champions Selangor as well in the
quarter-finals.
Against the Northern Lions, Kelantan trailed 1-4 from the first-leg match but
dazzled in the rain in the return match to tie the aggregate at 6-6 before
going on to win the penalty shoot-out 4-2.
And star-studded Selangor needed extra-time to eliminate Kelantan 6-5 on
aggregate.
Thai international midfielders Suriya Domtaisong and Sarif Sainui have been the
key roles for the team together with Ghanaian sweeper Haruna Al-Hassan.
Kelantan also have a promising striker in teenager Azlan Ismail, who has earned
a call-up to join national training for the Manila SEA Games at the end of the
year.
Kelantan and Kuantan Port will go into the final with one win apiece in the
league match-up against each other. Both sides won their home match by a 3-1
margin.
Tickets for the final are priced at RM20 (grandstand) and RM10 (terrace).
