KOTA BARU: Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat returns to work
today after more than a week at the Universiti Sains Malaysia
Hospital, where he was warded after a severe bout of flu.
He was discharged yesterday after being admitted to the hospital on
Oct 26, the third day of Hari Raya.
"I think I fell ill because I had attended too many prayer sessions
and breaking of fast dinners.
"It was rather hectic. So, I fell ill," he told reporters at a
Kelantan PAS Hari Raya gathering here yesterday.
Nik Aziz, who is also the PAS spiritual adviser, said he needed to
get back to work to prepare for the upcoming state assembly meeting.
"My health is entirely dependent on Allah. As long as He wills it, I
shall continue. The people should not be unduly worried," he said,
adding that if they were worried about him they could offer prayers
for his well-being.
His recent hospitalisation had given rise to another round of
speculation that the 76-year-old PAS leader would retire and pave the
way for a new mentri besar.
Among the prospective candidates who have been mentioned as his
successors are deputy mentri besar Datuk Ahmad Yakop, state Education
committee chairman Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and PAS vice-president
Datuk Husam Musa.//Thestar
