PM To Meet Kelantan Umno Over Airport Location KOTA BAHRU, Dec 5 - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will meet Kelantan Umno to discuss the Eastern Corridor development including the location of an international airport within the economic zone.
"The meeting will be held next month after the Prime Minister returns from his holiday," said Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Annuar Musa Wednesday. "Two days ago, I met him (the Prime Minister) and he agreed to see the Kelantan Umno delegates after he returns from his holiday in January," he said. Annuar was asked to comment on rumours that a new airport to serve the Eastern Corridor will be located in Kuantan, Pahang. Annuar said the delegates would convince the Prime Minister to locate the international airport in the Kelantan capital of Kota Bahru. "We will tell the Prime Minister that Kelantan needs an international airport because it is the key to attract foreign investment, especially in the oil and gas sector, and tourists. "Kota Bahru is also strategic as it is near Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam," he added. He said the existing Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa could be upgraded into an international airport to serve the Eastern Corridor. "The proposed meeting with the Prime Minister is necessary before Petronas unveils the Eastern Corridor Master Plan in March next year."//Bernama
