e-nikah system in Kelantan to check forgery

By MUHAMMAD IZANI ZAKARIA

KOTA BARU: The state religious authorities will soon be able to
verify Muslim marriages on-line. The system would help state
religious authorities keep tabs on marriages performed by licensed
kadi here, State religious development committee chairman Hassan
Mohamood said.

Hassan said this in response to a case where a couple was charged in
the state Syariah High Court here with forging a marriage
certificate.

A new security-seal document, he added, would also be issued to
newlyweds. The document would bear the signature of the Kadi who
solemnised their union, making it difficult to attempt duplication,
Hassan told a press conference.

The high-tech move was to check falsification of documents,
especially by couples who marry without consent or who are taking a
second or third spouse.

Religious authorities here would also liaise with the police to crack
down on forgery cases, he said, but declined to specify the number of
forged marriage certificate cases last year.

Earlier, he said the Sultan of Kelantan Tuanku Ismail Petra would
attend the Maal Hijrah celebrations.

The event would be held at Balai Islam in Lundang on Friday. The
State has invited academician Dr Abdul Basir Abd Rahman from the
prestigious Madinah University in Saudi Arabia to speak at the
function.

The state would also give out awards to the best male and female
Muslim entrepreneurs and the best-run religious school during the
function.//Thestar
