Hi ! At that time, I guess I was trying to run smpl_core_pebs program from perfmon's list of sample program. But Stephane told me that that the architecture that I was referring to was based on Yonah michroachitecture and Precise Event Based Sampling was not supported on that (I have a dual core machine). I don't have Core 2 duo (which is infact based on Intel's core architecture and supports PEBS).
