A unified diff patch was sent in a separate message. I have
not heard back fromanyone about whether it works or not.

Perhaps I ought to have mentioned the possibility of rebuilding perl
with something along the lines of:

   sh Configure -Uuseperlio [other options]
   make
   make test
   make install

Then that perl "should" be able to be used for adding the OS390::Stdio
extension as is. Unfortunately we do not have any reports of anyone
building perl 5.8.0 like that on OS/390 or z/OS and we do not know how
well it would work. It would seem that it is too much work for some
folks and if I could get some feedback on the proposed patch to
OS390::Stdio 0.007 I ought to be able to release 0.008 very soon.
Thanks.
