I know this is off the Perl subject, but one last comment. There is a
MS Knowledge base article "Q130914" covering registry size and SAM size.
I have performed stress testing on the new PDC and BDCs with cloned
images on a dark network and received good results with a SAM of around
65MB. The hardware was PII 233 with 128MB RAM. I used the
"Win32::Authentication to stress test a loop of authentications. It
handled 1000 auths in 39 seconds. I also used Perl to create 1000
groups with 500 users in each group which took 11 hours to finish but
completed successfully. Ok, I will shut up about the NT stuff.

Ed,

I thought the maximum size for the SAM is 40 MB. You mean that the PDC
and
the BDC do not have the same default maximum size SAM? If so, that seems
to
have been a bad idea on MS part.
