Yeah it's really hard for the folks not in NYC & DC to understand what's
happening here. Our "unfeeling perl wizard" just doesn't know what's
going on. He's seen it on TV and it looks like a movie. He's not
smelling the smells we're smelling or seeing firemen (et al) exhausted and
crying. He has no idea how much it hurts to call and call you friends and
not have them call you back; you know why they aren't calling you back,
but you call and call anyway. He needs to get on with his life and do his
job to get over this. I'm on 14th and I am doing my job (mostly) too but
he can't possibly feel what I an my whole office feel; that since we're
writing scripts and such that our jobs are stupid and meaningless while
the truly brave are digging the victims out of the rubble.
I envy him and his bravado. I wish I was a thousand miles away too. I
wish my friends would call me back.
