Make sure that the service is stopped first. Otherwise the SCM will have to
lock the database first. This is usually why you need to reboot.

Hello,

when I'm removing a service written similar to Examples from Dave Roth's
second book on W2K (SP2), I must reboot the machine to install this service
again. Some other services didn't have this behavior (for instance apache).
Any hints?
