Well, I would say if you're asking a question about a Perl script that is intended to be run on a Win32 system, then this list would be a good place. If you want the same script to run on a Linux box, then I don't see any problem with that. I do much of much of my development in Perl. My applications happen to run on both NT and Solaris, which is one of the great advantages of Perl. I would say, however, that the majority of the time the perl interpreter that runs my programs is on Solaris. Should I stop posting to this list? There are very few, if any, Perl resources as good as this list. That's why there are a lot of unix users subscribed. The clpm newsgroup just isn't as good as it used to be. Unfortunately, usenet in general just isn't as good as it used to be. And, having slashed and burnt that territory, spammers have moved on to email...don't get me started... You can still find a fair amount of information by searching with Dejanews or Remarq (or both simultaneously with Dogpile). > Don't dilute this one by making it just another Perl mailing list. I don't think the quality of this list would change. But I also wouldn't have a problem with a different solution (perhaps a separate list otherwise identical to this one) that would allow people that use Linux or Solaris boxes to discuss Perl issues. I agree that the quality of the list probably would not change, but the volume sure would and the difficulty of following interesting threads would. Perl, as a whole, is just too broad of a topic to be served well by one list. To tell the truth, I don't really care if someone occasionally posts a Linux or Solaris question, but including them as a matter of policy is entirely different. If ActiveState (or anyone else) wants to host a Perl-Linux-Users list or Perl-Unixish-Users, I think that would be great and I would be among the subscribers. There are already groups for Perl-Tk, Perl-DBI, Perl-Modules, and a few other subsets of Perl, and these are primarily Unix groups.
