This is partially because it attracted a fair number of (fairly) clueless
newbies who asked the same FAQs day in, day out, or who wanted the
documentation to be read to them. This annoyed the "wizards" quite a bit,
having to see the same questions month after month, and little (if any)
effort to find an answer by (a) trying it out, (b) reading the documentation
(especially perlfaq*), or (c) grepping the newsgroup archive (e.g. via
DejaNews).

Furthermore, many of these FAQs garnered well-meaning, but wrong, responses,
and many of the "wizards" felt it their duty to point out the wrong answers
so that newbies wouldn't be misled (including people with half a clue who
might search the archive before posting and finding a wrong answer) -- which
added even more to their workload.

I believe comp.lang.perl.moderated was created to produce a place with a
higher signal-to-noise ratio than c.l.p.misc.

Cheers,
Philip
