I misspoke.  CPAN downloaded and built the old CPAN verison (at which point
I interrupted it), but when allowed to proceed didn't actually install it.

Sorry for the noise.

Nevertheless, I find it a little incongruous that a version is not good
enough to be called stable but is good enough to be included in a perl
maintenance release :)
