That's what I had earlier today, but it didn't look too great. My wife
(aka. "beta tester") also preferred the current version.

The repository is on Git, but I have been using Mercurial with the
Hg-Git plugin. My hope is that this will all be transparent so
everyone can use whatever they like.

Give me a day to think about this. Personally I think that
documentation is already easy to find, and I hesitate to add a lot of
duplication to the sidebar.

Fixed. As Derek said, this claim actually comes from the original
site. It's fixed now.
