Just to throw my hat in the ring as a tester, we've been using the 0.3.0 patch under a rather heavy load for the last 6+ months on multiple Ubuntu installations and haven't had a single problem. I really don't see why this isn't included with apache.

We ourself use the little more developed version of peruser 0.3.0 which has variable multiplexer support, setting nice level and some configuration syntax rewriting plus handful of bugfxies. We submitted it on 18 May 2008 but it never reached the official release, probably not enough testers who would say that it works ok ( well ..it still works for us :P after almost a year later) or too much changes for some of us to put to test on production environment.
