I was under the impression that freezers with defrost cycles were to be avoided since they give the critters periodic respites from the extreme cold, and possibly allow them to acclimate enough to survive. I think it is important that the freezer be at max cold from the start and maintain that temp through the entire period in order to ensure 100% kill. Of course it depends upon the target, some being more resistant to cold than others. Linda
