Katherine,

The image depicts a handful of isopods, but also spiders, a rove beetle and yet
other ‘outdoor’ creatures. I recommend you check the following:

  * Door sweeps: Make sure these exclude invaders and weather.
  * Ensure that all penetrations through the building envelope are sealed.
  * Check for and seal breaches in sumps, around ejector pits and utility
chases.
  * Modify the landscaping so that water flows away from the building.
Consider adding a barrier of loose stone that may facilitate drainage and
drying of the soil.
  * Until you’re better able to exclude these (and other pests), consider
deploying lines of glue traps as means to interdict uninvited guests. Under
certain circumstances, a barrier treatment (inside or out) might be made with a
residual contact insecticide.

Good luck.

Subject: [pestlist] Requestion advice to resolve a pill bug infestation

Good morning,

We’ve been having increasingly more substantial problems with pill bugs in one
of our collections storage spaces, a subterranean basement. I’ve attached a
photo of one of the traps pulled from this space during our last survey – there
are two other traps that were equally full. The basement’s perimeter floor
traps are full of pill bugs and other pests and the floor, which was clean in
early December, is covered in pill bug carcasses. Apart from resolving existing
envelope issues in the basement, which are already on our maintenance agenda,
does anyone have any recommendations for eradicating the pest population in the
meantime?

Thank you for your time and input!

Best,

Katherine Fecteau
