There was a discussion at last week's IPM 2019 conference in Stockholm about the current ban of in-situ generated Nitrogen for the purpose of pest treatment of cultural heritage objects. Further information about the issue is available at the ICOM UK website: http://uk.icom.museum/news/view/?title=/pest-treatment-using-nitrogen-gas-in-the-cultural-heritage-sector/. ICOM are currently in the role of a mediator between the European Commission, national governments and the cultural heritage sector in an attempt to resolve this situation.
This question goes to the UK members of this list: in the context of gaining as much insight into the use of in-situ generated Nitrogen by the cultural heritage sector I am compiling some information for ICOM. Please can you let me know if your museum has a Nitrogen generator and treatment chamber. On a related note, I would also be interested to know if you have recently used bottled Nitrogen, especially in conjunction with services offered by Rentokil. Please do reply off-list if you wish.
