Todd,

it concerns the Situation in Europe, with the biocide Regulation for Nitrogen
in Tanks (bootles).
As we heard last week in Stockholm from the US-colleagues, in the US it isn‘t a
real problem in the practical use at the museums.

Christian,

I just wanted to clarify something regarding your message.
At the museum I work at, we have tanks of nitrogen that we use to flush
Marvelseal envelopes during anoxic treatments. Does this mean it is now not
legal to have nitrogen tanks?

Hi Christian,
It was good meeting you last week and a very good meeting too. Lots of useful
info and food for thought.

Regarding your question: the Gibraltar National Museum doesn’t have a Nitrogen
generator, nor have we ever used bottled Nitrogen.

Best wishes,

Geraldine

There was a discussion at last week's IPM 2019 conference in Stockholm about
the current ban of in-situ generated Nitrogen for the purpose of pest treatment
of cultural heritage objects. Further information about the issue is available
at the ICOM UK website:
http://uk.icom.museum/news/view/?title=/pest-treatment-using-nitrogen-gas-in-the-cultural-heritage-sector/.
ICOM are currently in the role of a mediator between the European Commission,
national governments and the cultural heritage sector in an attempt to resolve
this situation.

This question goes to the UK members of this list: in the context of gaining as
much insight into the use of in-situ generated Nitrogen by the cultural
heritage sector I am compiling some information for ICOM. Please can you let me
know if your museum has a Nitrogen generator and treatment chamber.

On a related note, I would also be interested to know if you have recently used
bottled Nitrogen, especially in conjunction with services offered by Rentokil.

Please do reply off-list if you wish.

Thank you
