Hello Georgia,

not only Stegobium paniceum but other insects like Trogoderma angustum,
Silverfishes or sometimes Snails could go on attractive rodent baits (blocks or
pellets) outside. You could use other bait formulations inside plastic bags
(place packs),
if you have really problems with rodents. If not, just take snap traps like
Christina said. To avoid insects, you could increase the control interval
with changing the baits every 2-4 weeks or use other traps like snap traps.
In Germany Stegobium paniceum is one of the most popular food stored pests
inside private houses. So it´s a high risk, to get them from outside.

Betreff: [pestlist] Drugstore beetles eating rodent bait

Hello,
Yesterday I discovered drugstore beetles (Stegobium paniceum) inside two rodent
bait stations.
There was a sticky trap nearby with beetles on and I just happened to check the
rodent station by chance (this is usually checked by an external rodent
provider).
After opening the rodent trap I saw the beetles had bore holes all through the
poison bait, I broke open the bait and could see happy little larvae inside!
The poison bait is Contrac All-Weather Blox, I’m unsure if this is used in
other countries or just here in New Zealand.
We have these bait stations throughout the whole museum and I’m now worried
that we are attracting drugstore beetles with our rodent prevention… any
thoughts appreciated!
