Hi Julie,

I do not know a datalogger, but there are certainly sensors used in lab
freezers like the -80C so maybe VWR or some lab research company will have what
you need. Ours are all on alarms and those link up to the facilities and the
lab managers even get phone calls if they fail.

Good luck
Genevieve

Subject: [pestlist] Freezer Datalogger: Recommendations?

Hello, Pestlist

Looking for recommendations for a freezer treatment datalogger that can go to
very low temps.

Backstory:
We set our freezer to stay between -35 and -25F (the variation from its
cycling). However, there are instances where the temperature has dipped below
-40F (which is also -40C if anyone else thinks that's interesting!).
Unfortunately, -40 is the temperature our Onset HOBO bluetooth loggers lose
functionality. One by one they have been erroring. After it happens once that
logger can no longer function at temperatures under -20Fish.

Have others ran into this problem? Ideally our freezer wouldn't get that low,
but this is a problem that seems to happen sporadically despite regular
maintenance. Can anyone recommend a logger that functions under -40F? I see
many that have probes, but those will not work with our setup. I've looked into
Onset and Thermoworks primarily, I'd be happy to investigate other big names if
suggested.
