Form a cover or box made from metal mesh. Hardware cloth with holes of ¼ inch
works reasonably well. That should exclude mice, but it’ll also limit passage
of larger insect pests (adult cockroaches, stink bugs, etc. If you’re mainly
interested in museum pests, this is a good strategy. But…. you shouldn’t have
mice anywhere near your accessions! One might argue that if the mice are
captured on the glue traps, then that might be a benefit of sorts. You
certainly should pursue other manners of mitigating the mouse problem.

Subject: [PestList] Mouse-proof insect traps

Good morning everyone,

Do you have any recommendations for a mouse-proof way to trap and monitor
insects? We’ve been using the standard sticky blunder traps for a while and
tend to catch mice and the occasional small snake as well, which we’d all
prefer to avoid. Are there any insect traps specifically designed to keep
larger animals out? Have you had good luck with any other strategies to prevent
this issue? Thank you for your help!
