Employees bringing small appliances/furniture from homes or thrift stores is
usually how German cockroaches get into a workplace. Best to have that
prohibited in policy. Of course cardboard can be a vector/issue as well. A
small leak under a sink can create the perfect microclimate under a cabinet for
a nest of German roaches. They also like the warmth of electronics especially
if the are left on overnight. A rotation of professional baiting with a non
repellant spray (in non exhibit spaces) is the best way to eradicate. German
roaches are really good at developing pesticide resistance. JTV

Hello, in Peru we tend to associate small German cockroaches with kitchens
(especially restaurant kitchens) - mostly due to kitchen grease and animal fat
leftovers or remains of fried foods. Our American cockroaches are more sewer
and garden related. Is there any chance you have old cooking exhaust pipes
nearby with leftover grease or a nearby restaurant kitchen?

Best,
Angelica

Hi
We have seen cockroaches emerge from floor waste drains that have dried out
(there's an s-bend between the drain and the sewer line which needs to be
refilled occasionally), but the most common entry is with cardboard boxes
carrying cleaning supplies, etc.
Best wishes

Adie,

In my experience, German cockroaches are rarely associated with plumbing. They
may occasionally accumulate around a drain for moisture, but they wouldn’t
arise from the sewer lines below. I’d wager that these roaches were stowaways
on supplies brought in during construction or thereafter.

Subject: [PestList] German Cockroach

Hello folks

we have found German cockroach nymphs in a new build/refurbishment project
where we have not found any before.

Has anyone else come across them as we suspect they have either come in with
the materials or made their way up through the sewers?

we rarely find them at the BM Estate, London

regards

Adie
