Yes, cockroaches are prominent denizens of the waste plumbing systems. But,
those tend to be ‘American’ and ‘Oriental’ cockroaches. The ‘German’
cockroaches are mostly associated with far less humid and fouled environments,
though they invariably foul whatever they encounter.

Subject: Re: [PestList] German Cockroach

Hi
We have seen cockroaches emerge from floor waste drains that have dried out
(there's an s-bend between the drain and the sewer line which needs to be
refilled occasionally), but the most common entry is with cardboard boxes
carrying cleaning supplies, etc.
Best wishes
Alex

Adie,
In my experience, German cockroaches are rarely associated with plumbing. They
may occasionally accumulate around a drain for moisture, but they wouldn’t
arise from the sewer lines below. I’d wager that these roaches were stowaways
on supplies brought in during construction or thereafter.

Subject: [PestList] German Cockroach

Hello folks

we have found German cockroach nymphs in a new build/refurbishment project
where we have not found any before.

Has anyone else come across them as we suspect they have either come in with
the materials or made their way up through the sewers?

we rarely find them at the BM Estate, London

regards
Adie
