Stephan,

Just curious. Were the flowers dried before freezing? I would have assumed
that freshly cut flowers would be damaged by freezing.
Sounds like a cool installation.

Hello Mike,

best practice in IPM is to avoid insecticides.

If the installation is only for a short time or during cold times, i would
suggest to control the branches on exit holes of insects and monitoring further.
Freezing of thin plants takes with -30 degrees only 24-48 hours to kill most of
possible insects. Better than nothing.
In Munich a Collection had frozen 200.000 fresh flowers without problems. See

Betreff: [PestList] Fresh branches

Hello all,

We'll be bringing freshly-harvested willow branches into the building for an
installation, and I'm wondering what would be the best method to treat them to
prevent any possible introduction of pests. There are 20 branches, up to 8 feet
long and about an inch in diameter, and stripped of leaves.

Has anyone had a similar experience? We're not sure if we have the time or
capacity for a heat/freeze treatment. Is an insecticidal soap an appropriate
option?

Many thanks for your thoughts and advice!

All the best,
