Species survival can be dependent on moisture in the wood. Can the wood set for disposal be dried? Then moisture levels in the wood would then be matched to requirements for species survival.
Fumigation is likely your best method for control in the existing structure However, I'm not familiar with Canadian rules and would need to research. Surface treatments are also done but less effective. Again, I'm not sure what wood treatment products are registered in Canada. If you are interested in these options, I can do the research.
