Hi Richard, This collection was brought in from a recently closed university (from their carpeted offices and archives), which had shut off power to their building a month prior I believe. There was evidence of cockroach, silverfish (one was spotted during pickup), springtail, and other pest activity (lots of wanderers like lady bugs) in the vicinity. The warehouse the collection was brought to for inspection we’ve not seen evidence of bird or bat activity in (we examine monthly sticky traps at this location). However, the collection was placed in a cleared area near the loading dock there; the door of which does have gaping large enough for a small bird or bat. I don’t think that the rafters in this space or other adjacent warehouses have been inspected, and it sounds like it’s definitely worth taking a look! Thank you!

Lucy, The imaged creature could be an immature bed bug, but I anticipate it is not. There are a lot of other kinds of hemipterans that look quite similar as nymphs. If it is a cimicid (the family that includes bed bugs), then my guess would be that it could be an immature bat bug or bird bug. Is there any evidence that birds or bats are nesting or roosting in the warehouse? -Rich Richard J. We found this pest in a sticky trap next to an incoming collection housed at our offsite warehouse facility. It is 2mm long. We think it is a bedbug, but are wanting to confirm in case it is a look-a-like pest. Please, let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks so much!
